5 Ways to Prevent Antidoting your Homeopathic Remedy
One key to your success with homeopathic medicine
One of the most overlooked aspects of homeopathic medicine, that almost every homeopathic practitioner struggles to fully comprehend, is that there are certain foods and substances that antidote homeopathic remedies.
To fully benefit from your remedy, these substances should be avoided.
A homeopathic remedy taken for a chronic complaint(s) will continue its healing work long-term - even if you’re not actively taking a remedy.
No matter if you take 1 dose of a remedy, if you take a weekly dose or if you take your remedy every night, your remedy will continue its healing work overtime.
In fact…
The more time we allow a single remedy to work without interrupting ie with another remedy or an antidotal substance, the better healing outcomes occur. Period.
This can be a challenging concept to wrap our modern brains around…
How can a remedy that I took 9 months ago still be acting?
I know, it’s a total mind f&#k. Truly.
The longest I’ve been on a remedy (so far) without taking a new remedy has been about 15 months. I took 1 dose of 1 remedy. And, over the course of those 15 months, I saw gradual, lasting and major improvements which deepened with each month.
I have also seen this response in my clients - the more time we allow on one remedy (whether a single dose or several repeated doses) - the better the healing outcome.
I will talk more about the mechanism behind the action of homeopathic remedies in a future post…
Today, I want to help you prevent antidoting your remedy so you can have the most successful healing outcomes possible using homeopathic medicine.
Before I outline the most common antidotes, I want to talk about mint…
Many homeopathic practitioners suggest avoiding mint when under homeopathic care.
However, many classically trained homeopaths, including myself, have found this to be unnecessary. Reason being, when put to the test, mint does not antidote your remedy.
There is one exception to this rule however…
The remedy Natrum Muriaticum (Nat Mur) is actually antidoted by mint.
So, if you’re currently on this remedy, or if you prescribe this remedy as a homeopath to one of your patients, this is a case where mint (including spearmint, mint products, peppermint, mint tea, mint essential oils and even toothpaste containing mint) should be avoided.
If you’re not currently taking Nat Mur, you have the green light when it comes to mint.
There are other foods and substances however, that despite what remedy you’re taking, will antidote. These substances include:
Coffee.
Honestly, I don’t have anything against coffee. I (used to) love a good organic espresso with fresh cream from my Jersey cow, Rose. However, hands down, regular coffee will antidote your remedy and needs to be avoided to attain the most successful healing outcomes when under homeopathic care. If you LOVE coffee swap it for a 100% decaf version or with mate, matcha, green tea or black tea to prevent antidoting your remedy. Energy drinks like Monsters and Red Bulls will also antidote due to their extremely high levels of caffeine.Cannabis.
Today, you can’t drive 4 blocks without seeing a cannabis dispensary, at least not in the west. CBD stores are prevalent not only throughout many US cities but cannabis and its constituents are also commonly found in many healthcare products as well as lotions, salves, foods and others as well. While I have many health concerns regarding the use of cannabis, including memory issues, dementia, confusion, skin issues and sluggish liver function, the fact of the matter is cannabis in any form antidotes homeopathic remedies. All cannabis products should be avoided when under homeopathic care.Psychedelic’s.
These are definitely trending right now. And, while I have many concerns with micro dosing and the use of psychedelics as a “health supportive practice” and as a way to “process trauma” bottomline, they will antidote the homeopathic remedy you’re on. Like cannabis, long-term use of psychedelics are extremely hard on the brain, neurological system and endocrine organs.Essential Oils.
There are a few ways that the use of essential oils can antidote the remedy you’re on. One is if you ingest something with essential oils in it. Essential oils such as peppermint oil, orange oil, clove oil are found in many food products today and these are best avoided to prevent antidoting.
Second, is if you apply raw form essential oils directly to your skin, without a carrier oil, this can often antidote. These oils are STRONG and can antidote your remedy in many cases. However, essential oils found in soaps, lotions, shampoos and other body care products are not a threat to your homeopathic remedy.Prescription Medications and OTC’s (over the counter meds)
While I know that it’s not always possible to avoid prescription medications, it is important to know that these will antidote your remedy. If someone comes to me seeking homeopathic care while on Rx medications (this includes albuterol inhalers), I will have them take a daily, very low dose of the remedy at least 60 minutes after their medication to allow the remedy to act as long as possible before their next dose of medication.
Also, if you get an acute when under homeopathic care, if it’s not a life-or-death situation, I always encourage my clients to reach out to me so we can treat the acute with homeopathic medicine. This prevents suppressing the immune system and further moves the organism forward, often in profound ways, after the acute is treated with a homeopathic remedy.
OTC’s may seem like a benign form of medicine. However, they have an incredibly suppressive effect on the immune system and organism. Even something like Claritin, nasal spray, Sudafed or Novocain (not an OTC but often administered during dental work) will suppress symptoms creating a deeper chronic issue long-term. In addition, they also antidote your homeopathic remedy.
There are other substances that many of my clients often ask about with concerns of antidoting their remedy. These include things like, Ibuprofen, Panadol, dairy, alcohol, caffeinated tea and supplements - all of which will not antidote your homeopathic remedy.
Supplements are an important topic in and of themselves. While most supplements do not have an antidotal effect on your remedy, they often mask true symptoms and act palliatively vs acting in a root cause way as homeopathic medicine so uniquely and effectively addresses.
The most common question that I get asked is, How long do I have to avoid the antidotal substances?
I’m not going to beat around the bush with this one…
Because, I want you to have the most successful healing outcomes with your remedy as you possibly can.
I highly recommend avoiding the antidotal substances for a minimum of 12 months after starting homeopathic care.
If you’re exposed to one of the antidotal substances, your symptoms will gradually return. It often takes 30-60 days for symptoms to fully return after antidoting.
I hope this helps you understand the antidotal substances more deeply so you can continue to experience the profound healing effects that homeopathy has to offer.
